We are striving for Unity Campus to be an exemplar in sustainable development.  As such, all three new Phase 2 buildings achieved BREEAM ‘Excellent’ and EPC ‘A’ Ratings. We will continue this into Phase 3, aspiring to achieve BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ and other leading industry standards for superior building performance and occupant wellbeing.

All-Electric Buildings – 100% Renewable

Utilising no fossil fuels means lower carbon emissions, lower air pollution and increased resiliency. The energy we do use at Unity Campus is 100% from renewable sources.

Intelligent and Efficient

We monitor energy and water usage, through Intelligent Building Management Systems, to optimise performance. We use LED lighting and PIR sensors to enhance energy efficiency by reducing unnecessary energy consumption. Additionally, our phase 2 buildings use structurally insulated panels (SIPs) to reduce energy demand.

Moving to Net Zero

We are ensuring that both our construction process and day-today operations are operationally sustainable. Over 253 tonnes of carbon have been saved to date through material selection – the equivalent of heating 93 family homes for a year and 99% of construction waste has been diverted from landfill.

Enhanced Biodiversity

We have cleaned up a once contaminated industrial site, reinstating natural water culverts, planting orchards and introducing beehives. These changes have already increased biodiversity on site by over 130%.

Sustainable Travel

We have a green travel plan that includes car sharing, ample cycle parking and cycle repair, convenient bus routes and we are within walking distance of Whittlesford Parkway train station. There are also ample electric vehicle charging points to further enhance the campus’ sustainability profile.

We share our ESG principles with all our members and work together to ensure we all undertake specific responsibilities to reduce carbon emissions in the day to day operations of our buildings.
